Arunachal Pradesh is India's northeasternmost state and the largest in the Northeast, bordered by Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Assam and Nagaland. It rises from subtropical forest along the Brahmaputra plains to Himalayan peaks above 6,000 metres, cut by the Kameng, Subansiri, Siang and Lohit rivers. Its capital is Itanagar.
The state is home to more than twenty-five major tribes, each with its own language, dress, architecture and festivals. Travellers come for Tawang and its monastery, the largest in India, the Apatani villages of Ziro, the Siang valley, Mechuka, Dirang, Namdapha National Park and much more.
The best time to visit Arunachal Pradesh is October to April, when the roads are clear and the skies are open. Indian visitors from outside the state need an Inner Line Permit, and foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit.
