Karnataka is a state in southwest India that runs from the Arabian Sea coast over the Western Ghats to the Deccan plateau. Its capital is Bengaluru.
Each part of the state feels different. The coast holds Udupi, Mangaluru, Murudeshwar and Gokarna. The Western Ghats hold the coffee hills of Coorg and Chikmagalur and the forests of Dandeli. On the plateau stand Hampi and Pattadakal, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, along with Badami, Mysuru and its palace. Yakshagana, Mysuru Dasara and the Kambala races of the coast are among its many traditions.
The best time to visit Karnataka is October to March. The monsoon, from June to September, brings heavy rain to the coast and the Ghats.
