Jharkhand is a state in eastern India on the Chota Nagpur plateau, a land of forests, rivers, waterfalls and old rock. Its capital is Ranchi. The name means land of forests.
The state is home to the Santhal, Munda, Oraon, Ho and many other Adivasi communities, whose festivals, such as Sarhul, Karma and Sohrai, follow the forest and the fields. Sohrai and Khovar wall paintings come from here. Travellers come for the waterfalls around Ranchi, the Netarhat plateau, Betla National Park in the Palamau Tiger Reserve, and the temples and villages across the state.
The best time to visit Jharkhand is October to March. The waterfalls are fullest just after the monsoon, from August to October.
