What a custom journey plan covers

We start with what you want from the trip and work out the rest from there. That means the month, the route measured in hours of driving rather than kilometres, where each night falls, the stays, the drivers and the guides. We customise for budget, comfort, pace, food, physical needs and interests, not only for the destination and the dates. A plan that gets the place right and the pace wrong is still the wrong plan.

Weekend getaways of one to three nights

A weekend getaway runs one, two or three nights, usually within driving distance of home. A short trip has no spare half day to lose, so it needs more planning, not less. We pick one or two places that suit the break you want and keep the driving time honest.

Road trips that run two days or two months

A road trip has no fixed length. The route and the people in the car decide it, not a template. We use country roads wherever they make the journey better, for reasons set out in why I take country roads over highways.

Road trip planning while you drive

Some people want to drive without an itinerary but not without help. Before you leave, we share a flexible plan with fuel stops, clean places for a break and food stops along the way. On the road, you share your live location with us. We follow the drive and keep suggesting the next stop, and why it is worth making. Around lunchtime each day we settle where the night should be, and we arrange it.

In July 2026 I drove two days through Meghalaya this way, with nothing booked. The first night's camp was booked thirty minutes before we reached it. The whole drive is written up night by night, including the parts that were uncomfortable.

How a custom journey is priced

We do not publish a price list, because no two custom journeys cost the same. We quote against the journey you actually want. If the figure does not fit your budget, we tell you what would have to change. Usually it is a shorter trip, a different month or a simpler stay for part of the route.

What to send us first

Tell us when you can travel, roughly for how long, who is coming and what you want from the trip. Add a budget if you have one in mind. A list of places is less useful than the reason for the trip, because the route follows from the reason.

Whatever a journey costs, it is planned on the same terms. We use local hosts, family run stays and guides from the area wherever they exist, so what you spend stays in the community. That is the practical side of Care-Based Travel.
